Canton Fair 2026 Recap: Real Voices from Southeast Asian Markets and Industry Trends
The 139th Canton Fair concluded in early May. For the Troas team, the most valuable takeaway was not the grand narratives of industry reports, but the direct conversations with real buyers at our booth.
In this post, we won't pretend that "every buyer asked about environmental certifications." Instead, we'll honestly share what we actually experienced — along with some rational observations about future trends.
What We Actually Saw: Southeast Asian Buyers Focused on Price and Delivery
At this year's Canton Fair, more than 70% of the buyers who visited the Troas booth came from Southeast Asian markets (Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, etc.), with the rest from the Middle East, South Asia, and a small number from Europe and North America.
The concerns of these Southeast Asian buyers were very focused:
-
Competitive pricing
-
Minimum order quantity (MOQ)
-
Stable delivery within 30–45 days
-
Fast sample shipping
In contrast, very few buyers proactively asked about environmental certifications (REACH/RoHS) or in-depth technical parameters (UV ratings, acid/alkali resistance data). That's an objective fact, and we don't avoid it.
What does this mean? For waterproof fabric suppliers primarily serving Southeast Asian markets, the core competitive factors remain: cost-effectiveness, delivery stability, and responsive service. Troas has relied on these three strengths to win long-term cooperation with many Southeast Asian customers over the past 20 years.
What We Observed: Environmental Compliance Standards Are Rising in Western Markets
Although we saw fewer European and North American buyers at this fair, the few professional buyers from Europe did show a different sourcing logic. They explicitly asked whether materials meet REACH, RoHS, or other standards before discussing prices — and whether the supplier can provide compliance declarations or testing support.
This reflects a reality: If your products are intended for the European or North American markets in the future, environmental compliance will move from a "nice-to-have" to a basic requirement.
Troas products are manufactured following strict environmental requirements, with no restricted substances added. While we do not currently have ready-made REACH or RoHS test reports, if your target market requires them, we are willing to cooperate in arranging third-party testing to ensure compliance.
Another Direction We Noticed: Functional Requirements Are Growing Slowly
Few buyers asked about technical parameters, but some did. A small number of buyers were interested in:
-
UV resistance of PVC fabric (for outdoor tents or shading products)
-
Chemical resistance (for industrial protection or agricultural covers)
-
Food contact compliance of EVA films (for specific packaging applications)
These needs currently come from a small group of professional buyers, but we see this as a signal worth watching. As Southeast Asian local manufacturing upgrades, demand for functional waterproof fabrics may gradually increase.
Three Practical Sourcing Tips for Waterproof Fabric Buyers
Based on our real exhibition experience this year, here are three suggestions that may be useful, whether you are a buyer in Southeast Asia or preparing to enter Western markets:
-
Know your target market
If you mainly serve local Southeast Asian markets, prioritize price, delivery, and basic quality. If you plan to export to Europe or North America, discuss compliance support with your supplier early. -
Don't be scared by "trends" — but don't ignore them either
Environmental and functional requirements are the future direction, but not all markets need them today. When choosing a supplier, you can ask: "If I need REACH reports in the future, can you cooperate?" — The answer to this question reveals more about a supplier's willingness to partner than whether they already have the report. -
Start with a small trial order
No matter how good a supplier sounds, a small trial order is the most reliable way to test quality, delivery, and communication. Troas welcomes any customer to request samples and place trial orders.
Looking Ahead
The waterproof fabric industry won't change overnight, but changes are happening. Troas will continue our weekly Tuesday updates, honestly sharing our market observations, technical knowledge, and production experience.
