What Is the Proper Waterproof Rating for Rainwear?
2026-01-13
Waterproof rating, usually measured in mmH₂O, is the most important indicator for rainwear fabric performance.
Different applications require different waterproof levels:
| Rating | mmH₂O | Application |
| Basic | 1,500–3,000 | Daily raincoats |
| Standard | 3,000–5,000 | outdoor leisure rainwear |
| High | 5,000–8,000 | fishing & industrial rainwear |
| Ultra | 8,000+ | extreme heavy rain environments |
For industrial, fishing and mining rainwear, PVC coated fabrics with waterproof rating above 5,000mm are highly recommended.
